External Sports Credit Program
The External Sport Credentials Program (ESCP) gives student the opportunity to earn graduation credits for approved levels of competition as an athlete, coach and/or official.
The Ministry of Education has approved this program for credit under the External Credentials Program. The Ministry of Education is responsible for the External Credentials Program and the Sport Credits portion of this program is administered and monitored by the Sport and Recreation Branch of the Ministry of Healthy Living and Water Ski & Wakeboard BC
Athlete Programs for Towed Water Sports
Athlete 11 Programs must have been on BC Development Team. These letters are sent out by WSWBC and are eligible for 4 credits in Athlete 11
Athlete 12 Programs must have been on BC Team. These letters are sent out by WSWBC and are eligible for 4 credits in Athlete 12
BC Games Participants are eligible for Athlete 10 External Sport Credentials and must contact the WSWBC Executive Director to verify participation in the BC Games and an ongoing training program. The PSO will provide a verification letter which must be presented to the school counsellor to obtain the credit.
Coaches Program for Towed Water Sports
2009/10 External Sport Credit Program – COACH 11 and 12 Criteria
As a result of changes to the National Coaching Certification Program the following criteria for the Coach 11 and 12 external sport credit programs will be in effect for the 2009/10 school year.
The Ministry of Education requires the Coach 11 and 12 external sport credit programs to fulfill the following requirements:
Coach 11 – (2 Credits)
The student coach must fulfill the following requirements to receive credits for coach 11.
NCCP Community Sport Initiation;
NCCP Making Ethical Decisions evaluated and 30 hours of coaching experience monitored and reviewed by an Introduction to Competition trained coach or NCCP Level 2 certified coach in the sport you are being evaluated in.
Student coaches who have completed all requirements of the Coach 11 category must send their proof of completion (as listed above) to the Sport and Recreation Branch. The Sport and Recreation Branch representative will review the submitted documentation for the particular coach level and issue a verification letter if the student has fulfilled all the requirements.
Coach 12 – (4 credits)
For Coach 12, the Provincial Sport Organization must submit to the Sport and Recreation Branch the Association’s NCCP coach education program for review and approval. The requirements include all of the following and must total a minimum of 100 hours of instruction, evaluation and practical coaching experience.
Provide instruction in the NCCP multi-sport modules and the sport technical components of the sport;
Evaluate the student coaches in their knowledge of developing practice sessions and demonstration of sport specific instruction; and
Practical coaching experience. The student must submit a verification letter of practical coaching experience. An Introduction to Competition trained coach or NCCP Level 2 certified coach from the same sport must provide the verification letter of practical coaching hours. The verification letter must include; name of the student, number of practical coaching hours, team or athletes coached, level of participation, name of authorizing coach including NCCP CC number (if applicable), and date of completion.
Once a Coach 12 program is approved, Water Ski & Wakeboard BC will provide the Sport and Recreation program manager with the appropriate documentation to verify the student coaches proof of completion.
Official’s Program for Towed Water Sports
WSWBC Officials Level 3 for the sport of Water Ski/Wakeboard and thus meets the standards for the External Sport Credentials Program. Students are eligible to receive four credits for Official 12 which may be applied towards secondary school graduation.
Please note that each Program Credit may only be received once.
