Corey Walters President Fraser Valley Waterski Club Abbotsford , BC

Dear Corey,

The 2010 BC Summer Games are over. The towed water sport was a great success, great weather, great organization and planning. All the athletes had a great time. The aim of any competition is to make it fun, safe and fair. I want to thank-you, the volunteers and the Fraser Valley Waterski Club for hosting the games. Thank-you all for the hard work and time donated. The towed water ski sports are severely limited in sites and support so I can understand the demands on the club.

Sincerely,

Sherry Blackmore Sports Chair BC Summer Games

Sudden Passing of Renowned Canadian Coach, John McCammon

Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada and Water Ski and Wakeboard British Columbia are saddened to relay news of the sudden passing of John McCammon. John died of an apparent heart attack on June 9th at his Florida residence.

John was recognized as one of Canada’s top water ski coaches, and one of the strongest supporters and builders of water ski’s national coaching certification program. Over the years he had served as National Development Team Coach, BC Provincial Team coach, and ran a longtime ski school through which he helped guide many athletes towards achieving their skiing goals. Most recently he was a member of the BC Executive Board and co-chair of the organizing committee for the 2010 Canadian Water Ski Championships. His passion for athlete development was reflected in his countless contributions to authoring many pieces of the organization’s coach manuals, delivering coaching courses and helping create a pathway for participants through development of a national long term athlete development model.

His pride and joy, though, was his daughter, Maddison (Maddie), who tragically but seemingly consistent with the deep bond they shared, was on the scene and who helped initiate resuscitation attempts. Not surprisingly, Maddie has grown a similar passion for the sport, and at the age of 17 has already risen to status on Canada’s Development Water Ski Team.

The BC and extended Canadian water ski community wishes to extend its deepest condolences to Maddie and the McCammon family.

Further information on arrangements and a pending Trust Fund for Maddie will be communicated once known.

Water Ski & Wakeboard BC's AGM in Victoria on February 6, 2010.

Water Ski & Wakeboard BC's AGM in Victoria on February 6, 2010.

Our Annual General Meeting was in Victoria this year with a day long program and banquet awards dinner, there were brake out sessions on all three disciplines. Guest speakers on long term athlete development, coaching, and a review of the strategic plan. Awards were presented at the banquet dinner and recipients are listed on the awards page.

Letter from Ian Kellow - President WSWBC

Dear Valued Member;

Well, it has been another successful year for Waterski and Wakeboard BC promoting towed water sports in BC. With the dwindling economy, the funding reductions announced for the sport sector by the Provincial Government have now become a reality. Thus the Executive have implemented some cost saving measures to help us through these challenging economic times, one example being as follows;

- Shortline is being changed to a digital PDF format which will be produced monthly, with athlete profiles, club and school info and an events calendar. With the result of approximately a $10,000 savings to our annual Budget.

- The discipline reps have been working hard to make things balance and not reduce their budgets for 2010.

Our Annual General Meeting will be in Victoria this year along with a day long program and a banquet awards dinner. There will be break out sessions on all three disciplines. Also there will be guest speakers on long term athlete development, coaching, and how to access gaming funds for clubs. For athletes we are attempting to have a Pacific Sport presentation on sports science. We are also planning a review of our Strategic Plan. This will be your opportunity to help us provide the right programs and services in the future as our executive takes a pro-active approach.

At the meeting the membership will be voting on changes to the membership fee and structure. This is very important to keep the budget balanced. WSWBC is strongly urging you to attend this years AGM. We are at a crossroads in how our organization functions and are looking to our membership for input and some fresh ideas.

Due to the 2010 Winter Olympics being in February, the Vancouver Boat Show has been postponed until April 2010. So we are planning to host the AGM in Victoria on February 7, 2010. More details will be available in the coming weeks.

As always thank you for all your support of towed water sports in BC and your continuing support of Water Ski and Wakeboard British Columbia.

Sincerely,

Ian Kellow President Water Ski Wakeboard BC
